New Orleans, LA - Employees at a Bud's Broiler in Mid-City attacked an armed robber late Sunday night, police said. Ismael "Mike" Naranjo, 43, was arrested on first-degree robbery. He was booked into the Orleans Parish Prison after receiving treatment from his injuries, according to the New Orleans Police Department.The restaurant at City Park Avenue and North Anthony Street. Employees inside the restaurant said a man walked into the business, told workers he was robbing them and walked around the counter to take money from the register.Moments later, the situation escalated when the employees attacked the robber as he attempted to leave. NOPD said two employees wrestled him to the ground and attempted to subdue him. The video shows one of the employees grabbing money out of the cash register as they chase Naranjo. The restaurant's general manager, Melvin Ziegler, said the employee grabbed the rest of the large bills out of the register so no other customers could take it as the two employees chased Naranjo. Naranjo was able to get up and jump into a nearby white older model pickup truck. The restaurant employees were able to take back some of the money he took.NOPD said officers received a call around 3:30 a.m. about a man sitting inside a white pickup truck bleeding from the head in the 700 block of Howard Avenue. Officers recognized the pickup as fitting the description of the one in the Bud's Broiler robbery. Naranjo was removed from the truck and taken to a hospital for lacerations to his head, NOPD said.Naranjo was linked to the robbery from evidence left at the scene. Officials believe is is responsible for similar robberies in the Third District.
