Despite the enormous power of the V12, 780 horsepower diesel engine powering the tank, it was unable to shift the bulk of the train carriage before the retaining chain snapped. The derailment wrecked rails near the Kaloyanovets station when the engine and four carriages left the tracks, killing the driver and severely harming 12 passengers. Government figures have estimated the repair bill at one milllion Euros.
