On 29 June 2014, I was filming Pridefest in Seattle, WA. I saw a cool building with some fun reflections in the windows and started to photograph the windows. I was standing in plain view on a public sidewalk, when this security officer from Northwest Protective Services approached me and erroneously informed me that I was not allowed to take pictures of the building. Of course I did not stop and I filmed the encounter. While this particular security officer was not being "aggressive," he was certainly misinformed of any actual laws that apply to photographers in public. After 9/11, the public photographer/citizen journalist became the new "terrorists." To disregard that MUCH better satellite/areal footage, interactive street views, and other images obtained from a simple Google search - and in privacy -, is to disregard quite pertinent realities. Even though there is no conclusive evidence that photographers were used to help commit this tragedy, the knee-jerk reaction from people in badges, was to condemn us. Videos like this have been multiplying exponentially...and it is because of these people who try forbidding photography. These people are the ones growing the population of people who devote themselves to engaging law enforcement and security through video.
