Hi guys, this is my first post, although I've been here for probably 6 years, as a browser. I don't know how to do this properly, or what the hell I'm doing, so hopefully it's not a fail. First off, I apologize that this will likely not show up as videos (unless, miraculously, they do!). If this post gets enough interest, I will post some serious next-level shit on what else is happening with this. Apple and IBM both tried their hands at creating a digital currency as early back as the 1980's. They essentially ran into brick walls and gave up the task until Satoshi Nakamoto came along with the vision to "turn a bank and its General Ledger inside out." Many people have referred to bitcoin as a Ponzi-scheme or have otherwise dismissed it. It's actually a rather new invention, and significant, as it is set to cause MAJOR disruption in the $350 Billion Remittance market. In lieu of some major corps now accepting it, like Overstock, Dish Network and Expedia, I thought I'd make a post about it or some of my fellow LiveLeakers. Despite its volatility, there are a few things which it does the absolute best at, particularly when sending money (we'll say, "value") from point A to point B, particularly overseas or across borders, quickly, and on the cheap! It is also decentralized, open-source and cannot be printed whimsically, like the USD and many other national currencies. Bitcoin has no borders, and everyone will be using it within 5 years (whether indirectly, or if they even know it at all). More to come, potentially (such as MasterCard, e-Bay, Western Union and JP Morgan applying for patents for its usage within just the last few weeks or months) Here is a fantastic link that dispels the rumors of bitcoin being some fly-by-night trend or passing phase and gives real information on how it is growing and what industries and markets it is affecting: http://ift.tt/1ybzNP5 Also, here are a few short intro videos that illustrate "What is Bitcoin?" http://ift.tt/1mHUj5k Finally, here are some notable quotes on bitcoin from very influential people on the Bitcoin Technology break-through: " MAY HOLD LONG-TERM PROMISE, PARTICULARLY IF THE INNOVATIONS PROMOTE A FASTER, MORE SECURE AND MORE EFFICIENT PAYMENT SYSTEM." - Ben Bernanke, Chairman of the Federal Reserve USA "IT WILL BE EVERYWHERE AND THE WORLD WILL HAVE TO READJUST. WORLD GOVERNMENTS WILL HAVE TO READJUST." - John McAfee, Founder of McAfee "BITCOIN IS A REMARKABLE CRYPTOGRAPHIC ACHIEVEMENT AND THE ABILITY TO CREATE SOMETHING THAT IS NOT DUPLICABLE IN THE DIGITAL WORLD HAS ENORMOUS VALUE" - Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google "IF WE REMEMBER, 15 YEARS AGO IF YOU WERE DOING ANYTHING ON THE INTERNET YOU WERE GOING TO MAKE MILLIONS. I THINK IT COULD BE THE SAME WITH BITCOIN." - Jered Kenna, Trade Hill CEO "WITH E-CURRENCY BASED ON CRYPTOGRAPHIC PROOF, WITHOUT THE NEED TO TRUST A THIRD PARTY MIDDLEMAN, MONEY CAN BE SECURE AND TRANSACTIONS EFFORTLESS." - Satoshi Nakamoto (*possible pseudonym), Bitcoin developer (White Papers) Full paper at: http://ift.tt/qjNKvK "IT'S MONEY 2.0, A HUGE HUGE HUGE DEAL." - Chamath Palihapitiya, Previous head of AOL Instant Messenger, former facebook VP and longest-standing executive (He has several more good quotes.) ALSO: Chamath Palihapitiya: "There is a famous scene in the Matrix where Morpheus asks Neo if he wants to take the blue pill and go back to life as he knows it or take the red pill and see life as it is. Neo takes the red pill and begins a period of exploration about humanity, hierarchy, rules, etc. Bitcoin is a red pill. There will be some bad and awkward moments, but lots of good, useful and powerful things will also ensue. It will reallocate financial strength and power to the people versus keeping it within a few centralized authorities. I am hopeful that Bitcoin prevails. The world needs more red pills." "I UNDERSTAND THE POLITICAL RAMIFICATIONS OF AND I THINK THAT GOVERNMENT SHOULD STAY OUT OF THEM AND THEY SHOULD BE PERFECTLY LEGAL." - Ron Paul, Republican Texas Congressman and former candidate for US President "BITCOIN MAY BE THE TCP/IP OF MONEY." - Paul Buchheit, Creator (inventor) of Gmail "RIGHT NOW BITCOIN FEELS LIKE THE INTERNET BEFORE THE BROWSER." - Wences Casares, Founder of Banco Lemon, the winner of Xbox game of the year for his game Assault Heroes "I AM VERY INTRIGUED BY BITCOIN. I OWN BITCOINS. IT'S A STORE OF VALUE, A DISTRIBUTED LEDGER. IT'S A GREAT PLACE TO PUT ASSETS, ESPECIALLY IN PLACES LIKE ARGENTINA WITH 40 PERCENT INFLATION, WHERE $1 TODAY IS WORTH 60 CENTS IN A YEAR, AND A GOVERNMENT'S CURRENCY DOES NOT HOLD VALUE. IT'S ALSO A GOOD INVESTMENT VEHICLE IF YOU HAVE AN APPETITE FOR RISK. BUT IT WON'T BE A CURRENCY UNTIL VOLATILITY SLOWS DOWN." David Marcus, CEO of Paypal "BITCOIN REPRESENTS A SIGNIFICANT THREAT TO THE CURRENCY DOMINATION OF THE USA, WHICH IS THE ONLY THING PROPPING UP THE NATION'S STATUS AS A WORLDWIDE SUPERPOWER." - Rick Falkvinge, IT Enterpreneur, Politician. "CRYPTOLOGY REPRESENTS THE FUTURE OF PRIVACY BY IMPLICATION ALSO REPRESENTS THE FUTURE OF MONEY, AND THE FUTURE OF BANKING AND FINANCE." - Orlin Grabbe, Economist, Prolific Writer "I SEE BITCOIN AS ONE OF THE BIGGEST THINGS FOR POTENTIALLY REDUCING THE POWER OF STATE AND UPLIFTING THE POWER OF THE INDIVIDUAL TO HAPPEN FOR ... FOREVER MAYBE." - Zander Marz, author of "Beyond the Government Haunted World" "I THINK BITCOIN IS A MASSIVE CONCEPTUAL AND HELPFUL STEP FORWARD." - Godfrey Bloom, Political Leader "THE NEXT STEP IN HUMAN EVOLUTION WOULD BE A RACE THAT COULD PUT THEIR TRUST IN EACH OTHER, NOT IN THEIR RULERS OR POLITICIANS." - S.E. SEVER, Writer "GOLD IS A GREAT WAY TO PRESERVE WEALTH, BUT IT IS HARD TO MOVE AROUND. YOU DO NEED SOME KIND OF ALTERNATIVE AND BITCOIN FITS THE BILL. I'M NOT SURPRISED TO SEE THAT HAPPENING." - Jim Rickards, American Lawyer, Economist and Investment Banker "YOU CAN'T STOP THINGS LIKE BITCOIN. . IT'S LIKE TRYING TO STOP GUNPOWDER." - John McAfee, a British-American Computer Programer and Founder of McAfee Inc. REGULATION OF MONEY SUPPLY NEEDS TO BE DEPOLITICIZED." - Al Gore, former US Vice President and winner of Nobel Peace Prize SOURCE: http://ift.tt/WVafqN "THERE ARE 3 ERAS OF CURRENCY: COMMODITY BASED, POLITICALLY BASED, AND NOW, MATH BASED." - Chris Dixon, Technology Investor "BITCOIN IS A TECHNOLOGICAL TOUR DE FORCE." - Bill Gates, Microsoft co-founder (Eric Schmidt actually said it first on CNBC on April 23, 2013 with Gates following two weeks later on May 8 on Fox) "THIS MAY BE THE PUREST FORM OF DEMOCRACY THE WORLD HAS EVER KNOWN, AND FOR ONE I AM THRILLED TO BE HERE TO WATCH IT UNFOLD." - Paco Ahlgren, Financial Analyst at Wi-Fi Alliance "BITCOIN IS THE BEGINNING OF SOMETHING GREAT: A CURRENCY WITHOUT A GOVERNMENT, SOMETHING NECESSARY AND IMPERATIVE." - Nassim Taleb, scholar and statistician "BITCOIN IS A FIXED SUPPLY, A FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND, GLOBAL-IN-SCALE, VOLUNTARY, DECENTRALIZED OPEN-SOURCE DIGITAL CURRENCY AND PAYMENT NETWORK THAT ENABLES DIRECT, PEER-TO-PEER, BORDERLESS, PSEUDO-ANONYMOUS, NEARLY-INSTANTANEOUS, NEARLY-FREE AND IRREVERSIBLE CASH-LIKE TRANSFERS OF VALUE. THE ONE THING THAT'S MISSING BUT THAT WILL SOON BE DEVELOPED, IS A RELIABLE E-CASH." - Milton Friedman, a Nobel Prize Winner in Economics, is heralded as the greatest economist of the 20th century. Nearly fifteen years ago, he predicted a day when e-currency would mitigate the effects of government. He said this in 1999 "THE RELATIVE SUCCESS OF THE BITCOIN PROVES THAT MONEY FIRST AND FOREMOST DEPENDS ON TRUST. NEITHER GOLD NOR BONDS ARE NEEDED TO BACK UP A CURRENCY." - Arnon Grunberg, Writer "THE GOVERNMENTS OF THE WORLD HAVE SPENT HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS BAILING OUT A DECAYING, DICKENSIAN, OUTMODED SYSTEM CALLED BANKING, WHEN THE SOLUTION TO THE FUTURE OF FINANCE IS PEER-TO-PEER. IT'S GOING TO BE ALTERNATIVE CURRENCIES LIKE BITCOIN AND IT'S NOT ACTUALLY GOING TO BE A BANKING SYSTEM AS WE HAD BEFORE 2008." - Patrick Young, economist, financial analyst "INSTANT TRANSACTIONS, NO WAITING FOR CHECKS TO CLEAR, NO CHARGEBACKS (MERCHANTS WILL LIKE THIS), NO ACCOUNT FREEZES (LOOK OUT PAYPAL), NO INTERNATIONAL WIRE TRANSFER FEE, NO FEES OF ANY KIND, NO MINIMUM BALANCE, NO MAXIMUM BALANCE, WORLDWIDE ACCESS, ALWAYS OPEN, NO WAITING FOR BUSINESS HOURS TO MAKE TRANSACTIONS, NO WAITING FOR AN ACCOUNT TO BE APPROVED BEFORE TRANSACTING, OPEN AN ACCOUNT IN A FEW SECONDS, AS EASY AS EMAIL, NO BANK ACCOUNT NEEDED, EXTREMELY POOR PEOPLE CAN USE IT, EXTREMELY WEALTHY PEOPLE CAN USE IT, NO PRINTING PRESS, NO HYPER-INFLATION, NO DEBT LIMIT VOTES, NO BANK BAILOUTS, COMPLETELY VOLUNTARY. (DEC), maker of big business mainframe computers, arguing against the PC in 1977. "To place a man in a multi-stage rocket and project him into the controlling gravitational field of the moon where the passengers can make scientific observations, perhaps land alive, and then return to earth - all that constitutes a wild dream worthy of Jules Verne. I am bold enough to say that such a man-made voyage will never occur regardless of all future advances." - Lee DeForest, American radio pioneer and inventor of the vacuum tube, in 1926 "Flight by machines heavier than air is unpractical (sic) and insignificant, if not utterly impossible." - Simon Newcomb; The Wright Brothers flew at Kittyhawk 18 months later. "This 'telephone' has too many shortcomings to be seriously considered as a means of communication. The device is inherently of no value to us." - A memo at Western Union, 1878 (or 1876).
