I needed a token deadlift to win the Oxford-Cambridge powerlifting varsity. Instead I ruptured my distal biceps tendon on the opener. (Then I took a second attempt and locked it out for the win, torn biceps and all.) UPDATE (10/25/2011): Since people are still watching this thing, I wanted to say that it took about 9 months to get back to 100% on my deadlift and now, 17 months later, I'm considerably stronger than I was on the day of the injury, though I now strictly use a double overhand hook grip to compete and often wear straps.
