November Fails by Dutch creator

By: jironde on: 3:54 AM
By Hugh Naylor December 28 BEIRUT - The Syrian regime has intensified efforts to reverse substantial manpower losses to its military with large-scale mobilizations of reservists as well as sweeping arrest campaigns and new regulations to stop desertions and draft-dodging. The measures have been imposed in recent months because of soaring casualties among forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad, as well as apparent increases in desertions and evasions of compulsory military service, analysts say. Some speculate that the moves also could be part of stepped-up military efforts to win more ground from rebels in anticipation of possible peace talks, which Russia has attempted to restart to end nearly four years of conflict. But the regime's measures have added to already simmering anger among its support base over battlefield deaths during the conflict. The anger may be triggering a backlash that in turn could undermine Assad's war aims, Syrians and analysts say. "These things have obviously angered core constituents, and they show just how desperate the regime is to come up with warm bodies to fill the ranks of the Syrian Arab Army," said Andrew Tabler, a senior fellow and Syria expert at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. In October, the regime stepped up activations of reserve forces. Tens of thousands of reservists have been called up, and soldiers and militiamen have erected scores of checkpoints and increased raids on cafes and homes to apprehend those reservists who refuse to comply. Similar measures increasingly target those who avoid regular military service, a compulsory 18-month period for all men who are 18 and older. In recent weeks, the regime also began upping threats to dismiss and fine state employees who fail to fulfill military obligations, according to Syrian news Web sites and activists. In addition, they say, new restrictions imposed this fall have made it all but impossible for men in their 20s to leave the country. Since the start of the uprising in 2011, Syrian authorities have used arrests and intimidation to halt desertions, defections and evasion of military service - but not to the extent seen recently, Syrians and analysts say. Men who are dragooned into the army appear to be deserting in larger numbers, they say, and the government's crackdown is driving many of these men as well as more of the large number of draft-evaders to go into hiding or flee abroad. "I can't go back. All these things would make it certain that I'd be forced into the military," said Mustafa, 25, a Syrian from Damascus who fled to Lebanon in September because of the new measures. Citing safety concerns, he asked that only his first name be used. Joseph, a 34-year-old Christian from Damascus, learned two weeks ago that his name was on a list of thousands of people who would soon be activated for reserve duty. Having completed his compulsory military service in 2009, he wants to flee Syria. "Of course I don't want to return to the military," Joseph said by telephone from the capital. He also requested that only his first name be used. A report issued this month by the Institute for the Study of War says the number of soldiers in the Syrian military has fallen by more than half since the start of the conflict, from roughly 325,000 to 150,000, because of casualties, defections and desertions. Combat fatalities alone have surpassed 44,000, according to the report, which used data from Syrian activists, monitoring groups and media reports. Christopher Kozak, a Syria analyst at the institute who wrote the report, said in an e-mail that reservist mobilizations and efforts to stop desertions appear to be partly related to the departure in recent months of pro-regime militiamen. Scores of these largely Shiite fighters, who come from Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and Lebanon's Hezbollah movement, left for Iraq in the summer summer to counter an offensive by the Islamic State, the extremist Sunni group. Iranian fighters in particular have been crucial in helping the Syrian regime restructure its forces. One such effort was the founding of the National Defense Force, a militia composed of paid volunteers. The foreign fighters helped the Assad regime win back strategic territory from rebels. Kozak wrote that these supplemental militias "are no longer sufficient to meet the regime's projected needs - spurring the regime to reinvigorate its conscription efforts" in the military. Imad Salamey, a politics professor at the Lebanese American University, said that efforts to boost numbers in the military are partly driven by concern that Assad's allies, Iran and Russia, appear increasingly interested in a negotiated settlement to the Syrian civil war. In recent weeks, Russia, with Iranian backing, has engaged in diplomatic efforts to restart the Geneva peace talks that collapsed in February. "There is rising urgency in these countries for a settlement to the conflict and the regime senses this, so it's trying to win as much ground as possible to strengthen its negotiating position," he said. Yezid Sayigh, a Syria expert and senior associate at the Carnegie Middle East Center in Beirut, said economic crises in Iran and Russia because of falling oil prices could affect their support for the Assad regime, which until now has prevented its collapse. "The question for me really is whether Iran and Russia are going to push the regime harder to engage in diplomatic efforts," he said. He added that a worsening problem for the regime is anger among its supporters over mounting casualties . Rare protests over the issue have been held by the minority Alawite population, which is the backbone of the Assad regime's forces. Other minority groups, such as Syria's Druze community, also show signs of dissent. In their villages in southern Syria, most Druze families have refused to allow their sons to join the military. In an incident earlier this month, Druze villagers kidnapped regime intelligence officers in an attempt to free a man who was apprehended for refusing to serve in the military. "The people are turning on the regime here because they don't want their children to die in this war. They don't see the point of this war," said Qusay, 22, a resident of the mostly Druze city of Suwayda and engineering student at Damascus University. He also asked that only his first name be used. "If the regime tries to push us to serve, there will be a fight." Sam Alrefaie contributed to this report

Before the year's most talked-about movie "The Interview" came out, the critics had given it a mixed reception. Then came the Sony hack threats against any cinema that showed it, and its withdrawal. It looked likely it would lose Sony its 80 million dollar production and marketing budget. However since Sony backtracked and released it as video on demand on the web on Christmas Eve it has taken 15 million on the internet alone, and the 300 cinemas of its restricted release have been sold out. A wider release, perhaps to ten times that number of screens, is surely on the cards. The film has gone from being a potential black hole in the entertainment giant's budget to box-office gold. "It's a farce of the highest level. I would equate it to something like 'Airplane!' or 'Hot Shots!', you know?" "Overall, big dumb fun" "Super funny, super funny" "Yeah, I thought it was a great movie, it was really funny," were just four reactions from a host of happy punters leaving one US cinema. Rarely has a film benefited from such an amount of free publicity, and like Chaplin's "Great Dictator" years before, not even condemnation from a national government has been able to stop "The Interview", which unlike Chaplin's masterpiece has not suffered from appeasement or much criticism of its politics, unless it is from within North Korea. Indeed, while Kim jong un is a movie fan and is likely to have seen it, he has kept his silence. President Barack Obama chose to make freedom of speech his reason for intervening, criticising Sony for bowing to North Korean pressure. That tipped the balance, and got the cash registers ringing. "Imagine if producers and distributors and others start engaging in self censorship, because they don't want to offend the sensibilities of somebody whose sensibilities probably need to be offended," he said at a December 19 press conference. With publicity like that the movie would have to be a real dog to fail, and "The Interview" is no dog. It hits its admittedly soft target with ease, time and time again.

Fox News: Iraq War 'The Smartest Thing George Bush Did'

By: jironde on: 11:45 PM
Greece is facing a snap election after MPs failed to elect a new president in a tight parliamentary ballot. The ruling coalition's preferred choice for the post, the former European Commission Stavros Dimas, fell short of the 180 vote majority needed to become president. In a third and final round of voting, Dimas scored 168 votes, the same result he achieved in the 2nd round. The coalition needed the support of smaller parties and independents, but the ruling coalition failed to get the numbers despite weeks of campaigning and lobbying. Meetings had been held over the weekend with some independent MPs, but media reports had already cited coalition sources as saying achieving the target would be difficult. Ruling party officials had also denied some reports that the government had been in talks with lawmakers from the right-wing Golden Dawn party, which is under investigation by the police. Dimas was quoted as saying that under no circumstances would he accept to be elected president with votes from Golden Dawn. Under Greek law, a snap election must now be called, leaving the country in a state of political uncertainty for weeks. An election is expected within the next month. This is dangerous for the Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and his conservative centre-left coalition. Recent polls indicate the ruling coalition trails the left-wing Syriza party which wants to renegotiate Greece's international bailout and roll back controversial austerity measures. One recent opinion poll over the weekend put Syriza ahead of Samaras' New Democracy party by 3.3 points. The markets have been jittery over fears the EU and IMF bailout could be derailed by Syriza coming to power. Don Lemon has picked up a dubious honor: ranking in a Columbia Journalism Review fellow's list of the "worst journalism" of 2014. The anchor has made headlines throughout the year for controversial moments during his tenure as a CNN newsroom anchor. In a post written by David Uberti, the CJR fellow makes a case for why Lemon deserves to be ranked along with other missteps in journalism over the past year. "As one of the most recognizable anchors on CNN, Don Lemon has helped lead the cable network's coverage of the biggest stories of the year. Live television is exceedingly difficult to produce, of course, but Lemon's gaffes this year offer a case study in how to choose words wisely - or not," Uberti wrote. Lemon's comment that "Obviously, there's a smell of marijuana" during a Ferguson protest and his remarks during an interview with a Bill Cosby accuser were cited as controversial moments by Uberti. The CNN wasn't alone in the cable news world on the CJR worst list, Fox News Channel's Fox & Friends also made Uberti's list. Also included on the list was Rolling Stone magazine, which acknowledged serious missteps in its feature report on an alleged University of Virginia campus rape. "The disintegration of the magazine's visceral campus rape story from Nov. 19 wins this year's media-fail sweepstakes," Uberti wrote. On Dec. 22, Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner wrote in a statement that the magazine had asked Columbia Journalism School, which publishes CJR, to review the edit process of the feature.

CNN's Don Lemon Named to 'Worst Journalism of 2014' List

By: jironde on: 8:51 AM
Russia's new T-50 stealth fighter is fast, maneuverable, heavily-armed and hard to detect on radar. In theory. But according to Indian air force officials, in practice the Sukhoi-made stealth jet is also too expensive, poorly engineered and powered by old and unreliable engines. The Indians' complaints illustrate the yawning gulf between stealth warplane design and the actual production of radar-evading jets. In other words, it's one thing to sketch an advanced warplane on paper. It's quite another to build one and get it to work. All new aerospace development is difficult and many planes get poor reviews early in testing. But the gripes coming out of New Delhi are particularly worrisome for the Russians. Sukhoi is working on two variants of the T-50-one for Russian use and another for the Indians. The Indian air force has ambitions to purchase 144 of the stealth jets, and the money from this sale underpins the entire T-50 development effort. New Delhi is also kicking in $6 billion for design work. Without the Indians' cash, there wouldn't be a T-50. And Russia would have basically no hope of acquiring a stealth jet to counter the Americans' F-22s and F-35s and Chinese J-20s and J-31s . The Russian version of the T-50 is reportedly simpler than the Indian version, which includes Indian avionics and a wider range of compatible weapons. Five Russian T-50 prototypes are flying. The Indian model still exists only on paper. But that hasn't stopped the Indian air force from voicing its unhappiness with the T-50. According to transcripts of December and January meetings obtained by Business Standard, air force and defense ministry officials listed at least four "shortfalls ... in terms of performance and other technical features": The AL-41F engines currently fitted to the T-50 are unreliable. The radar is inadequate. The airframe is poorly built, with serious implications for the jet's stealth profile. And in light of these defects, $6 billion is too much to pay up front. According to Business Standard, Russian officials countered, saying the AL-41F engines are a temporary fit until brand-new and more powerful motors can be developed. The radar, too, is temporary-pending new sensors being developed specifically for the Indian version of the warplane. But the allegations of sloppy construction appear to be particularly serious. Besides posing an accident risk, low-quality construction can result in gaps and mismatched angles that elevate a plane's radar signature . Press reports in 2013 indicated that Sukhoi was having problems with quality control in the T-50 effort. At least one of the prototypes needed patches on its wings to keep from falling apart during high-stress maneuvers. All the same, Business Standard speculates that the Indian complaints could be somewhat politically motivated, as New Delhi is also planning to buy 126 new Rafale fighters from France for an eye-watering total price of $18 billion. Scrapping the T-50 could help India pay for the French jets.

Crimean Authorities Try Twice, Fail to Blow Up Building Original: http://www.themoscowtimes.com/news/article/crimean-authorities-try-twice-fail-to-blow-up-16-story-building/513916.html Residents in the center of the Crimean city of Sevastopol have been evacuated after two failed demolition attempts left a 16-story building teetering at a 70 degree angle on Friday. Construction on the building began in 2013 but was never completed. Its demolition was ordered after a court deemed its development unauthorized, the TASS news agency reported. On Friday, two demolition attempts by Sevastopol authorities resulted in nothing more than the building becoming lopsided, forcing the authorities to shut down roads in close proximity to the building and evacuate nearby residents. A video of the incident posted to YouTube on Friday shows the controlled explosion fail to bring down the complex, as residents laugh and one exclaims, "And it didn't even fall!"

Russian ruble slides 4 percent after official says it has stabilizedThe Russian currency on Friday ended its five-day rally and declined 4 percent as the markets remain jittery over the outlook of the Russian economy. The ruble has been the worst performing currency this year along with the Ukrainian hryvnia, having lost nearly half of its value against the dollar. Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov announced on Thursday that the ruble seems to have finally found its fair value. But that did not stop the ruble from ending its five-day rally when it had gained nearly 15 percent. The ruble declined by 4 percent in afternoon trading to 54 rubles against the dollar. Russian monetary officials have made stabilizing the ruble their priority, introducing a number of drastic measures to support it such as raising the key interest rate to a whopping 17 percent. Predicting problems for the economy for years ahead, Siluanov on Friday lamented the fact that instead of channeling money to infrastructure projects and education, President Vladimir Putin has chosen to boost the defense budget. The amount of the defense spending, which accounts for a third of the Russian budget is "tough" for the economy, Siluanov said in comments carried by Russian news agencies. The way spending is allocated in the Russian budget is a compromise decision for a number of ministries but it is ultimately up to the president to insist that spending for some crucial area such as defense be maintained or cut. Siluanov's predecessor, Alexei Kudrin resigned from the government in 2011 after 11 years in office after he slammed the government's mounting defense spending as something that cripples the Russian economy for years ahead. The Central Bank announced on Thursday that Russia's currency reserve has dropped below $400 billion for the first time since August 2009, as the government has been selling the currency on the market to support the ruble. In order to help out the companies that have been locked out of Western debt markets because of the Russian sanctions, the government has set aside 190 billion rubles ($3.7 billion) to deal with the fall-out of the economic crisis, Siluanov said Friday.

Police are hunting would-be thieves including one who set himself on fire during a botched smash-and-grab raid on a cash machine. Detectives released CCTV footage Monday which shows the gang arriving at a petrol station outside Portadown, Co Armagh with one man driving a Manitou type forklift at the ATM at speed. A white van arrives at the same time while the forklift repeatedly smashes into the cash machine, even bending its lifting bars in the process before the three men realise they are not able to break into the machine and get any money. One man then sets fire to the Manitou, but in the process of making sure the vehicle is ablaze, flames erupt from the cabin and appear to engulf him setting his hands alight. The man then jumps into the van and the trio speed off. The incident, on October 23, is the third time a digger type vehicle has been used to try and steal money from an ATM in the PSNI's E District which covers North Armagh, Banbridge and Newry since June but none have been successful.

ROME and BEIJING - The Roman Empire did it. The British Empire copied it in style. The Empire of Chaos has always done it. They all do it. Divide et impera. Divide and rule - or divide and conquer. It's nasty, brutish and effective. Not forever though, like diamonds, because empires do crumble. A room with a view to the Pantheon may be a celebration of Venus - but also a glimpse on the works of Mars. I had been in Rome essentially for a symposium - Global WARning - organized by a very committed, talented group led by a former member of European Parliament, Giulietto Chiesa. Three days later, as the run on the rouble was unleashed, Chiesa was arrested and expelled from Estonia as persona non grata, yet another graphic illustration of the anti-Russia hysteria gripping the Baltic nations and the Orwellian grip NATO has on Europe's weak links. Dissent is simply not allowed. At the symposium, held in a divinely frescoed former 15th century Dominican refectory now part of the Italian parliament's library, Sergey Glazyev, on the phone from Moscow, gave a stark reading of Cold War 2.0. There's no real "government" in Kiev; the US ambassador is in charge. An anti-Russia doctrine has been hatched in Washington to foment war in Europe - and European politicians are its collaborators. Washington wants a war in Europe because it is losing the competition with China. Glazyev addressed the sanctions dementia: Russia is trying simultaneously to reorganize the politics of the International Monetary Fund, fight capital flight and minimize the effect of banks closing credit lines for many businessmen. Yet the end result of sanctions, he says, is that Europe will be the ultimate losers economically; bureaucracy in Europe has lost economic focus as American geopoliticians have taken over. Only three days before the run on the rouble, I asked Rosneft's Mikhail Leontyev (Press-Secretary - Director of the Information and Advertisement Department) about the growing rumors of the Russian government getting ready to apply currency controls. At the time, no one knew an attack on rouble would be so swift, and conceived as a checkmate to destroy the Russian economy. After sublime espressos at the Tazza d'Oro, right by the Pantheon, Leontyev told me that currency controls were indeed a possibility. But not yet. What he did emphasize was this was outright financial war, helped by a fifth column in the Russian establishment. The only equal component in this asymmetrical war was nuclear forces. And yet Russia would not surrender. Leontyev characterized Europe not as a historical subject but as an object: "The European project is an American project." And "democracy" had become fiction. The run on the rouble came and went like a devastating economic hurricane. Yet you don't threat a checkmate against a skilled chess player unless your firepower is stronger than Jupiter's lightning bolt. Moscow survived. Gazprom heeded the request of President Vladimir Putin and will sell its US dollar reserves on the domestic market. German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier went on the record against the EU further "turning the screw" as in more counterproductive sanctions against Moscow. And at his annual press conference, Putin emphasized how Russia would weather the storm. Yet I was especially intrigued by what he did not say. As Mars took over, in a frenetic acceleration of history, I retreated to my Pantheon room trying to channel Seneca; from euthymia - interior serenity - to that state of imperturbability the Stoics defined as aponia. Still, it's hard to cultivate euthymia when Cold War 2.0 rages. Show me your imperturbable missile Russia could always deploy an economic "nuclear" option, declaring a moratorium on its foreign debt. Then, if Western banks seized Russian assets, Moscow could seize every Western investment in Russia. In any event, the Pentagon and NATO's aim of a shooting war in the European theater would not happen; unless Washington was foolish enough to start it. Still, that remains a serious possibility, with the Empire of Chaos accusing Russia of violating the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) even as it prepares to force Europe in 2015 to accept the deployment of US nuclear cruise missiles. Russia could outmaneuver Western financial markets by cutting them off from its wealth of oil and natural gas. The markets would inevitably collapse - uncontrolled chaos for the Empire of Chaos (or "controlled chaos", in Putin's own words). Imagine the crumbling of the quadrillion-plus of derivatives. It would take years for the "West" to replace Russian oil and natural gas, but the EU's economy would be instantly devastated. Just this lightning-bolt Western attack on the rouble - and oil prices - using the crushing power of Wall Street firms had already shaken European banks exposed to Russia to the core; their credit default swaps soared. Imagine those banks collapsing in a Lehman Brothers-style house of cards if Russia decided to default - thus unleashing a chain reaction. Think about a non-nuclear MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) - in fact warless. Still, Russia is self-sufficient in all kinds of energy, mineral wealth and agriculture. Europe isn't. This could become the lethal result of war by sanctions. Essentially, the Empire of Chaos is bluffing, using Europe as pawns. The Empire of Chaos is as lousy at chess as it is at history. What it excels in is in upping the ante to force Russia to back down. Russia won't back down. Darkness dawns at the break of chaos Paraphrasing Bob Dylan in When I Paint My Masterpiece, I left Rome and landed in Beijing. Today's Marco Polos travel Air China; in 10 years, they will be zooming up in reverse, taking high-speed rail from Shanghai to Berlin. From a room in imperial Rome to a room in a peaceful hutong - a lateral reminiscence of imperial China. In Rome, the barbarians swarm inside the gates, softly pillaging the crumbs of such a rich heritage, and that includes the local Mafia. In Beijing, the barbarians are kept under strict surveillance; of course there's a Panopticon element to it, essential to assure internal social peace. The leadership of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) - ever since the earth-shattering reforms by the Little Helmsman Deng Xiaoping - is perfectly conscious that its Mandate of Heaven is directly conditioned by the perfect fine-tuning of nationalism and what we could term "neoliberalism with Chinese characteristics". In a different vein of the "soft beds of the East" seducing Marcus Aurelius, the silky splendors of chic Beijing offer a glimpse of an extremely self-assured emerging power. After all, Europe is nothing but a catalogue of multiple sclerosis and Japan is under its sixth recession in 20 years. To top it off, in 2014 President Xi Jinping has deployed unprecedented diplomatic/geostrategic frenzy - ultimately tied to the long-term project of slowly but surely keeping on erasing US supremacy in Asia and rearranging the global chessboard. What Xi said in Shanghai in May encapsulates the project; "It's time for Asians to manage the affairs of Asia." At the APEC meeting in November, he doubled down, promoting an "Asia-Pacific dream". Meanwhile, frenzy is the norm. Apart from the two monster, US$725 billion gas deals - Power of Siberia and Altai pipeline - and a recent New Silk Road-related offensive in Eastern Europe, virtually no one in the West remembers that in September Chinese Prime Minister Li Keiqiang signed no fewer than 38 trade deals with the Russians, including a swap deal and a fiscal deal, which imply total economic interplay. A case can be made that the geopolitical shift towards Russia-China integration is arguably the greatest strategic maneuver of the last 100 years. Xi's ultimate master plan is unambiguous: a Russia-China-Germany trade/commerce alliance. German business/industry wants it badly, although German politicians still haven't got the message. Xi - and Putin - are building a new economic reality on the Eurasian ground, crammed with crucial political, economic and strategic ramifications. Of course, this will be an extremely rocky road. It has not leaked to Western corporate media yet, but independent-minded academics in Europe (yes, they do exist, almost like a secret society) are increasingly alarmed there is no alternative model to the chaotic, entropic hardcore neoliberalism/casino capitalism racket promoted by the Masters of the Universe. Even if Eurasian integration prevails in the long run, and Wall Street becomes a sort of local stock exchange, the Chinese and the emerging multipolar world still seem to be locked into the existing neoliberal model. And yet, as much as Lao Tzu, already an octogenarian, gave the young Confucius an intellectual slap on the face, the "West" could do with a wake-up call. Divide et impera? It's not working. And it's bound to fail miserably. As it stands, what we do know is that 2015 will be a hair-raising year in myriad aspects. Because from Europe to Asia, from the ruins of the Roman empire to the re-emerging Middle Kingdom, we all still remain under the sign of a fearful, dangerous, rampantly irrational Empire of Chaos.

This is for all you pro Putin wimp army keyboard warriors. How will Putin defeat this enemy, with nuclear strikes?? LOL.. you tools MOSCOW, Dec 26 (Reuters) - The world's two largest credit and debit card companies, Visa Inc and MasterCard Inc , said on Friday they could no longer support bank cards being used in Crimea, following U.S. sanctions imposed earlier this month. The United States last Friday prohibited U.S.-registered companies from investing in Crimea or providing services to firms operating there, among sanctions imposed over Russia's annexation of the peninsula from Ukraine. Visa said in a statement that the sanctions meant it could not offer Visa-branded products and services to Crimea. "We can no longer support card issuing and merchant/ATM acquiring services in Crimea," it said. Competitor MasterCard also said that it had to suspend operations with bank cards in Crimea due to the sanctions. http://ift.tt/1EqOhRN Putin should order the world to pay $500 bbl for his oil and that will fix his problems of failed war plans stay thirsty for Putin kool aide my comrades

Black students at Oberlin College with failing grades are demanding a free pass due to the recent events surrounding Michael Brown, Eric Garner and the "Black Lives Matter" protests. In a related report by the Inquisitr , black students at Columbia University and even Harvard Law requested an extension for semester final exams due to being "traumatized" by the grand jury rulings, riots and shootings. A recent petition has gathered several thousand signatures already and it specifically requests that Oberlin College give failing black students a grade of "C" at the minimum. "I would really like to see the normal grading system suspended for this semester and replaced with a no-fail mercy period. Administrators should require professors to exercise complete flexibility in what students are saying they can produce academically. "Require that every professor listen to what their students are saying and if that means rather than writing a paper students instead meet with their professor to simply discuss in groups their paper topics or if tests are taken collectively with professors there are ways to make sure we are learning what we are supposed to be learning in ways that are not so taxing in times like this. "Students in this moment should have complete access to alternative modes of learning while we process what's happening. Basically, no student especially black students and students of color should be failing a class this semester. A 'C' should be the lowest grade students can receive this semester. Professors should be required to work with students, who would otherwise be at risk of failing, to create alternate means of accessing knowledge." Oberlin College president Marvin Krislov has already responded to the petition by saying that "suspending grading protocols is not the way to achieve our shared goal of ensuring that students have every opportunity and resource to succeed." In response, some students cite Oberlin College's graduation of George B. Vashon, the college's first black student 19 years before the Emancipation Proclamation. Vashon went on to become a professor at Howard University, and today's black students believe this means they should have the ability to support the "Black Lives Matter" protests and receive a free pass. "Imagine if you had to tell your grandkids, 'I didn't go out and fight for what is right because I had to go finish a chemistry final,'" said Oberlin student senator Nick Canavan, according to the WCPO . "Class is important," said student Megan Bautista. "At the end of the day this is not just about me-this is about advocating for black and brown bodies and the assault on them." Do you think black students should be given a special exception if they have failing grades due to attending the "Black Lives Matter" protestsReally ? This shit is enough already

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and German Chancellor Angela Merkel may back down and agree to British Prime Minister David Cameron's demands that EU migrants living in Britain should not be able to send child benefit payments abroad, sources within the Commission have said. by A.B. Sanderson 23 Dec 2014 The Express reports that the pair, who are the main powerbrokers within the EU, have realised that should they not give in to any requests by Mr Cameron and the UK they will only strengthen the withdrawalist cause, which yesterday hit 51 per cent support among the British public. Current rules allow for child benefit paid to EU workers in the UK to be sent abroad to families living in other countries, predominantly Poland and other Eastern European countries. The British public have been calling for changes to the current laws which cost the tax payer around lb600,000 every week for children living overseas. This is at the same time as a record number of families in Britain are having to resort to using food banks. The policy is a sensible one for Cameron to use in the early stages of his demand for change, with German Chancellor Angela Merkel also voicing her support for a change in the legislation. EU politicians have been increasingly nervous at the growing Euroscepticism in the UK, which included anti-EU party UKIP topping the polls decisively in the European Elections in May. For Britain, the measure would apply to child benefit and tax credits. But a spokeswoman for the European Commission said the existence of a plan were just "speculation". "I cannot confirm the existence of such a plan or deal" she said. And Poland's Secretary of State for European Affairs was clearly angered by the proposals saying the transfer of benefit payments across borders was "a red line we cannot allow ourselves to cross and that is discrimination against EU citizens." Ms Trzaskowki, pointed out that the issue of "labour mobility" was to be examined as part of the commission's agenda for next year. The rotating presidency of the European Council will be led by Latvia from January 1st 2015. An earlier, opaque statement from the EU's legislative arm said "The Commission will present a package with the aim to support labour mobility and tackle abuses by means of better coordination of social security systems." But supporters of a British exit were not pacified by the news. Tory MP David Nuttall said "This might be a small step in the right direction but what the British people really want is not to be told what to do by Brussels. "If they are ready to concede on this issue, it suggests we need to be far bolder in what we are demanding. "Mr Juncker and Mrs Merkel are desperate to keep us in the EU because we are one of the few countries that is a net contributor to the EU budget." UKIP migration spokesman Steven Woolfe called the Prime Minister's strategy a "piecemeal approach". "He's like a draughts player trying to solve a chess problem". "Tinkering with EU treatises is bound to fail as each move faces opposition from sizable, sometimes, different blocs of countries." "This problem needs the game changing move which is to withdraw from the EU altogether, then negotiate a fair and ethical migration policy with EU countries on our way out as an independent sovereign state." Eastern European governments are likely to resist any attempt to curb access to welfare benefits in other countries for their citizens since the money is used to directly stimulate consumer spending and economic growth in these countries. And some Brussels insiders are claiming the move could backfire. "It would encourage migrants to bring their families with them rather than leave them at home to keep the benefits. That would put more pressure on Britain's schools, hospitals and housing" one diplomat said. "It would be unfair for two workers doing the same job with the same number of children not to get the same level of support because one of them does not have their children in the country."

PLO official says resolution will be brought to a vote at Security Council by the end of 2014, while Palestinian factions urge PA to pull resolution as it 'doesn't represent consensus of the Palestinian people.' The Palestinian draft resolution demanding Israel to withdraw from the West Bank and East Jerusalem will be brought to a vote at the UN Security Council by the end of 2014, PLO official Saeb Erekat told Russian media on Tuesday - but it has raised objections from some Palestinian factions, including Hamas. The Arab-backed draft resolution submitted by Jordan on behalf of the Palestinians last week calls for "an end to Israeli occupation," demanding Israel to withdraw to the pre-1967 lines by 2017, following which a Palestinian state will be established on those territories. The resolution also calls for direct peace talks limited to one year to agree on the implementation of the resolution. Hamas spokesman in Gaza, Sami Abu Zuhri, called on the Palestinian Authority to withdraw the resolution, saying it "doesn't represent consensus of the Palestinian people," Chinese news agency Xinhua reported. The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP), a far-left Marxist-Leninist faction, also urged the PA to "immediately withdraw" the draft resolution, saying the Palestinian leadership was presenting a confusing picture of the bid, according to Palestinian news agency Ma'an. "They have been presenting it before the political bazaar at international level for bids, then they claim they are making amendments as if it has been submitted by others," the group said in a statement. "Both the original version and the amended version, including the French and British remarks, is beyond repair and reform, and should be withdrawn immediately without delay," following which all Palestinian factions will be invited for a national dialogue about the resolution, the group said. In Algiers, meanwhile, visiting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that if the draft resolution is not brought to a vote, the Palestinians "will be obliged to take necessary political and legal decisions," according to Algeria Press Service (APS). He threatened that should the resolution fail at the UN Security Council, "we will no more deal with the Israeli government which will then be obliged to assume its responsibilities as an occupier." "We are determined to recover the rights of our people, including the right to return and the release of all the Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli jails. We will not succumb to the policy of the Israeli hegemony and oppression," Abbas told a press conference at the Algerian Foreign Ministry. "Palestine will ultimately regain its independence and impose itself as an independent State with Al-Quds as capital," he added, according to APS.

Im putting this video here to show how people can be greedy. Those public eve's in Poland are open for everybody but mainly in terms of assistance for the homeless and the poor. Thing that hurts the most is that people who dont need help take up too much food, and the older homeless man takes one anyway because he knows that there are a lot of people like him.

Glory be to anyone who carries out that threat. They will make t-shirts with your name on it and the word American Hero across it. =============================================== It's all about him. The Rev. Al Sharpton claimed Sunday that he's received death threats in the wake of execution-style murders of two NYPD officers in Brooklyn. Sharpton, appearing alongside the wife and mother of Eric Garner, played a voicemail for reporters purportedly of a racist threat made against him. "Hey n--r, stop killing innocent people, I'm going to get you!" according to the barely audible recording. The voice mail also included three f-bombs that went over live television in New York. Sharpton also took umbrage with police union leaders who have blamed Mayor de Blasio for allegedly inciting violence against cops. NYPD Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu were gunned down in cold blood as they sat in their patrol car on Saturday in Brooklyn. "To blame the mayor and others is not what we need," Sharpton said. "The blame game will only lead to further kinds of venom and further division." Sharpton urged protesters and police critics to remain peaceful. "If we go into an area where it's eye for an eye, then it is only a matter of who can out pluck eyes rather than who can make the system fail for everybody," he said. "We have in every rally and march ... been very clear in stressing of nonviolence. We even would stop rhetoric that was wrong." Police-community relations have been tense ever since a Staten Island grand jury failed to indict the white cop who put Garner, who was black, in a choke hold, contributing to his death.Garner was being arrested for allegedly selling loose, untaxed cigarettes when Officer Daniel Pantaleo used a chokehold to subdue him. Garner's mom, Gwen Carr, and wife Esaw Garner eulogized the two slain officers Sunday and rejected any link between the protests they've led and Saturday's tragedy in Brooklyn. "Anyone that is standing beside us, we want you to not use Eric Garner's name for violence because we are not about that," Carr said. "These two police officers lost their lives senselessly, and our condolence (are) with the family, and we stand with the family." Esaw Garner added: "My husband was not a violent man, and we don't want any violence connected to his name, thank you."

Failed scooter stunt in Russia

By: jironde on: 8:53 PM
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov's visit to Damascus on Dec. 10-11 drew the attention of many. After the Russian official met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad , Damascus issued an official statement about the meeting, stating that Assad stressed, "Russia has always stood by the Syrian people and proved that it supports people's right to self-determination and respects the sovereignty of states and international laws." Moreover, Assad also said, "Syria is confident that any Russian diplomatic action will be based on these principles, and on this basis it deals positively with the efforts exerted by Russia and aimed at finding a solution to the crisis."According to the same official statement, Bogdanov said after the meeting, "We always discuss the bilateral relations and the situation between the two parties, and the consolidation of the future relations between our two countries and our two peoples." He added, "We tackled the crisis in Syria and the political solution, and how we can settle this matter as soon as possible. Our basic and most important mission is to fight terrorism." These words have multiple meanings, connotations and interpretations, which must be examined and decrypted. The diplomatic source who accompanied Bogdanov on his visit, and was informed of his movements in Syria and its surroundings, told Al-Monitor on condition of anonymity that this visit may only be understood in light of the developments in Russian-Syrian relations in the past three months. This is due to the major change in the nature of the alliance between Damascus and Moscow since the start of the Syrian war in 2011, which was made public with the visit of a high-level economic delegation from Syria to the Russian capital in the second half of October. The Syrian delegation included mostly government officials in charge of financial and economic issues in Syria. It seemed that the purpose of the visit was mainly to get additional aid from Moscow. However, Syrian officials issued surprising statements afterward denying that Damascus had asked Moscow for any financial loans or a "line of credit." The same diplomatic source said that this formal speech in Damascus aims to cover up that the demands of the Syrian economic delegation to Moscow included Russian loans, or a so-called line of credit of about $3 billion. However, the Russian side failed to meet this demand. This Syrian denial then arose merely to cover up the Russian rejection. Such a rejection can be justified because Moscow is dealing with other pressing priorities at the moment, including the Ukraine crisis and the global decline in the prices of energy resources; more important, Moscow must clarify some points with Damascus, not only on the level of economic aid and military logistical support, but also on the political level, in terms of the general behavior of the two allies regarding the ongoing events in Syria. Syrians understood their ally's request for political cooperation as a type of new condition for the continuation of economic and military aid. After this development, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem headed to Moscow, accompanied by Syrian officials from economic departments. This gave the impression that Damascus had agreed to the Russian demand. Thus, Russia entered a new phase, enjoying the ability to influence the internal Syrian position and Syria's management of the war raging for over three years. Then another remarkable and concurrent twist of events emerged, represented by Russia's openness to Turkey and Putin's visit to Ankara . Thus, Moscow suddenly gained ownership of most of the trump cards to deal with the parties of the Syrian crisis. It is in this context that Bogdanov's movement became clearer. The official came to Beirut but did not go directly to Damascus. He went to Istanbul instead to meet with some of the pillars of the Syrian opposition there. It is worth mentioning that the "Syria-Istanbul opposition" group is practically affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria. It is the group that the former Damascus officials categorically refused to deal with. Moreover, Assad once called them "the Devil's Brotherhood ." Nevertheless, it was clear that the Russian diplomat succeeded in bringing about a breakthrough in the relationship between the two parties. He was able - thanks to his relationship with Ankara - to influence the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria, and in return, he was able to convince Damascus officials thanks to the economic pressure exerted by Moscow on its ally, in a secret and undeclared manner. The same diplomatic source concluded that it is too early to judge whether the Russian effort in Syria will succeed or not. But it seems that a new phase of pressure on the regime has begun. After the pressure exerted by opponents and enemies, allies and friends have also started to exert pressure. Indeed, this is a more influential and effective practice, and was indicated by a prominent statement by Hezbollah's deputy secretary-general, Sheikh Naim Qassem - concurrently with the beginnings of the Russian-Syria transformations in mid-October - that "everyone should expect painful compromises to reach a political solution that will save Syria from the crisis plaguing it." It is worth mentioning that Bogdanov himself had met Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut, before heading to Istanbul, and from there to Damascus via the Lebanese capital. Moscow may succeed or fail in reaching a breakthrough in the Syrian impasse. Yet, in both cases, what must be monitored is whether Moscow has become a "partner" in Damascus' management of the Syrian situation or whether it has become even more than a partner! http://ift.tt/1AJiG7T

The Russians called the EU's bluff by pulling out of the project instead of accepting the EU's conditions and are cutting deals with China and Turkey instead. By Alexander Mercouris ~ Russia Insider The reaction to the cancellation of the Sound Stream project has been a wonder to behold and needs to be explained very carefully. In order to understand what has happened it is first necessary to go back to the way Russian-European relations were developing in the 1990s. Briefly, at that period, the assumption was that Russia would become the great supplier of energy and raw materials to Europe. This was the period of Europe's great "rush for gas" as the Europeans looked forward to unlimited and unending Russian supplies of gas. It was the increase in the role of Russian gas in the European energy mix which made it possible for Europe to run down its coal industry and cut its carbon emissions and bully and lecture everyone else to do the same. However the Europeans did not envisage that Russia would just supply them with energy. Rather they always supposed this energy would be extracted for them in Russia by Western energy companies. This after all is the pattern in most of the developing world. The EU calls this "energy security" - a euphemism for the extraction of energy in other countries by its own companies under its own control. It never happened that way. Though the Russian oil industry was privatised it mostly remained in Russian hands. After Putin came to power in 2000 the trend towards privatisation in the oil industry was reversed. One of the major reasons for western anger at the arrest of Khodorkovsky and the closure of Yukos and the transfer of its assets to the state oil company Rosneft was precisely because it reversed this trend of privatisation in the oil industry. In the gas industry the process of privatisation never really got started. Gas export continued to be controlled by Gazprom, maintaining its position as a state owned monopoly gas exporter. Since Putin came to power Gazprom's position as a state owned Russian monopoly has been made fully secure. Much of the anger that exists in the west towards Putin can be explained by European and western resentment at his refusal and that of the Russian government to the break up of Russia's energy monopolies and to the "opening up" (as it is euphemistically called) of the Russian energy industry to the advantage of western companies. Many of the allegations of corruption that are routinely made against Putin personally are intended to insinuate that he opposes the "opening up" of the Russian energy industry and the break up and privatisation of Gazprom and Rosneft because he has a personal stake in them (in the case of Gazprom, that he is actually its owner). If one examines in detail the specific allegations of corruption made against Putin (as I have done) this quickly becomes obvious. This agenda of forcing Russia to privatise and break up its energy monopolies has never gone away. This is why Gazprom, despite the vital and reliable service it provides to its European customers, comes in for so much criticism. When Europeans complain about Europe's energy dependence upon Russia, they express their resentment at having to buy gas from a single Russian state owned company (Gazprom) as opposed to their own western companies operating in Russia. This resentment exists simultaneously with a belief, very entrenched in Europe, that Russia is somehow dependent upon Europe as a customer for its gas and as a supplier of finance and technology. This combination of resentment and overconfidence is what lies behind the repeated European attempts to legislate in Europe on energy questions in a way that is intended to force Russia to "open up" its the energy industry there. The first attempt was the so-called Energy Charter, which Russia signed but ultimately refused to ratify. The latest attempt is the EU's so-called Third Energy Package. This is presented as a development of EU anti-competition and anti-monopoly laws. In reality, as everyone knows, it is targeted at Gazprom, which is a monopoly, though obviously not a European one. This is the background to the conflict over South Stream. The EU authorities have insisted that South Stream must comply with the Third Energy Package even though the Third Energy Package came into existence only after the outline agreements for South Stream had been already reached. Compliance with the Third Energy Package would have meant that though Gazprom supplied the gas it could not own or control the pipeline through which gas was supplied. Were Gazprom to agree to this, it would acknowledge the EU's authority over its operations. It would in that case undoubtedly face down the line more demands for more changes to its operating methods. Ultimately this would lead to demands for changes in the structure of the energy industry in Russia itself. What has just happened is that the Russians have said no. Rather than proceed with the project by submitting to European demands, which is what the Europeans expected, the Russians have to everyone's astonishment instead pulled out of the whole project. This decision was completely unexpected. As I write this, the air is of full of angry complaints from south-eastern Europe that they were not consulted or informed of this decision in advance. Several politicians in south-eastern Europe (Bulgaria especially) are desperately clinging to the idea that the Russian announcement is a bluff (it isn't) and that the project can still be saved. Since the Europeans cling to the belief that the Russians have no alternative to them as a customer, they were unable to anticipate and cannot now explain this decision. Here it is important to explain why South Stream is important to the countries of south-eastern Europe and to the European economy as a whole. All the south eastern European economies are in bad shape. For these countries South Stream was a vital investment and infrastructure project, securing their energy future. Moreover the transit fees that it promised would have been a major foreign currency earner. For the EU, the essential point is that it depends on Russian gas. There has been a vast amount of talk in Europe about seeking alternative supplies. Progress in that direction had been to put it mildly small. Quite simply alternative supplies do not exist in anything like the quantity needed to replace the gas Europe gets from Russia. There has been some brave talk of supplies of US liquefied natural gas replacing gas supplied by pipeline from Russia. Not only is such US gas inherently more expensive than Russian pipeline gas, hitting European consumers hard and hurting European competitiveness. It is unlikely to be available in anything like the necessary quantity. Quite apart from the probable dampening effects of the recent oil price fall on the US shale industry, on past record the US as a voracious consumer of energy will consume most or all of the energy from shales it produces. It is unlikely to be in a position to export much to Europe. The facilities to do this anyway do not exist, and are unlikely to exist for some time if ever. Other possible sources of gas are problematic to say the least. Production of North Sea gas is falling. Imports of gas from north Africa and the Persian Gulf are unlikely to be available in anything like the necessary quantity. Gas from Iran is not available for political reasons. Whilst that might eventually change, the probability is when it does that the Iranians (like the Russians) will decide to direct their energy flow eastwards, towards India and China, rather than to Europe. For obvious reasons of geography Russia is the logical and most economic source of Europe's gas. All alternatives come with economic and political costs that make them in the end unattractive. The EU's difficulties in finding alternative sources of gas were cruelly exposed by the debacle of the so-called Nabucco pipeline project to bring Europe gas from the Caucasus and Central Asia. Though talked about for years in the end it never got off the ground because it never made economic sense. Meanwhile, whilst Europe talks about diversifying its supplies, it is Russia which is actually cutting the deals. Russia has sealed a key deal with Iran to swap Iranian oil for Russian industrial goods. Russia has also agreed to invest heavily in the Iranian nuclear industry. If and when sanctions on Iran are lifted the Europeans will find the Russians already there. Russia has just agreed a massive deal to supply gas to Turkey (about which more below). Overshadowing these deals are the two huge deals Russia has made this year to supply gas to China. Russia's energy resources are enormous but they are not infinite. The second deal done with China and the deal just done with Turkey redirect to these two countries gas that had previously been earmarked for Europe. The gas volumes involved in the Turkish deal almost exactly match those previously intended for South Stream. The Turkish deal replaces South Stream. These deals show that Russia had made a strategic decision this year to redirect its energy flow away from Europe. Though it will take time for the full effect to become clear, the consequences of for Europe are grim. Europe is looking at a serious energy shortfall, which it will only be able to make up by buying energy at a much higher price. These Russian deals with China and Turkey have been criticised and even ridiculed for providing Russia with a lower price for its gas than that paid by Europe. The actual difference in price is not as great as some allege. Such criticism anyway overlooks the fact that price is only one part in a business relationship. By redirecting gas to China, Russia cements economic links with the country that it now considers its key strategic ally and which has (or which soon will have) the world's biggest and fastest growing economy. By redirecting gas to Turkey, Russia consolidates a burgeoning relationship with Turkey of which it is now the biggest trading partner. Turkey is a key potential ally for Russia, consolidating Russia's position in the Caucasus and the Black Sea. It is also a country of 76 million people with a $1.5 trillion rapidly growing economy, which over the last two decades has become increasingly alienated and distanced from the EU and the West. By contrast, by redirecting gas away from Europe, Russia leaves behind a market for its gas which is economically stagnant and which (as the events of this year have shown) is irremediably hostile. No one should be surprised that Russia has given up on a relationship from which it gets from its erstwhile partner an endless stream of threats and abuse, combined with moralising lectures, political meddling and now sanctions. No relationship, business or otherwise, can work that way and the one between Russia and Europe is no exception. I have said nothing about Ukraine since in my opinion this has little bearing on this issue. South Stream was first conceived because of Ukraine's continuous abuse of its position as a transit state - something which is likely to continue. It is important to say that this fact was acknowledged in Europe as much as in Russia. It was because Ukraine perennially abuses its position as a transit state that the South Stream project had the grudging formal endorsement of the EU. Basically, the EU needs to circumvent the Ukraine to secure its energy supplies every bit as much as Russia wanted a route around Ukraine to avoid it. Ukraine's friends in Washington and Brussels have never been happy about this, and have constantly lobbied against South Stream. The point is however that it was Russia which pulled the plug on South Stream when it had the option of going ahead with it by accepting the Europeans' conditions. In other words the Russians consider the problems posed by the Ukraine as a transit state to be a lesser evil than the conditions the EU was attaching to South Stream . South Stream would anyway take years to build and its cancellation therefore has no bearing on the current Ukrainian crisis. The reason the Russians decided they could cancel it is because they have decided Russia's future is in selling its energy to China and Turkey and other states in Asia (more gas deals are pending with Korea and Japan and possibly also with Pakistan and India) than to Europe. Given that this is so, for Russia South Stream has lost its point. That is why in their characteristically direct way, rather than accept the Europeans' conditions, the Russians pulled the plug on it. In doing so the Russians have called the Europeans' bluff. So far from Russia being dependent on Europe as its energy customer, it is Europe which has antagonised, probably irreparably, its key economic partner and energy supplier. Before finishing I would however first say something about those who have come out worst of all from this affair. These are the corrupt and incompetent gaggle of politicians who pretend to be the government of Bulgaria. Had these people had a modicum of dignity and self respect they would have told the EU Commission when it brought up the Third Energy Package to take a running jump. If Bulgaria had made clear its intention to press ahead with the South Stream project, there is no doubt it would have been built. There would of course have been an almighty row within the EU as Bulgaria openly flouted the Third Energy Package, but Bulgaria would have been acting in its national interests and would have had within the EU no shortage of friends. In the end it would have won through. Instead, under pressure from individuals like Senator John McCain, the Bulgarian leadership behaved like the provincial politicians they are, and tried to run at the same time with both the EU hare and the Russian hounds. The result of this imbecile policy is to offend Russia, Bulgaria's historic ally, whilst ensuring that the Russian gas which might have flown to Bulgaria and transformed the country, will instead flow to Turkey, Bulgaria's historic enemy. The Bulgarians are not the only ones to have acted in this craven fashion. All the EU countries, even those with historic ties to Russia, have supported the EU's various sanctions packages against Russia notwithstanding the doubts they have expressed about the policy. Last year Greece, another country with strong ties to Russia, pulled out of a deal to sell its natural gas company to Gazprom because the EU disapproved of it, even though it was Gazprom that offered the best price. This points to a larger moral. Whenever the Russians act in the way they have just done, the Europeans respond with bafflement and anger, of which there is plenty around at the moment. The EU politicians who make the decisions that provoke these Russian actions seem to have this strange assumption that whilst it is fine for the EU to sanction Russia as much as it wishes, Russia will never do the same to the EU. When Russia does, there is astonishment, accompanied always by a flood of mendacious commentary about how Russia is behaving "aggressively" or "contrary to its interests" or has "suffered a defeat". None of this is true as the rage and recriminations currently sweeping through the EU's corridors (of which I am well informed) bear witness. In July the EU sought to cripple Russia's oil industry by sanctioning the export of oil drilling technology to Russia. That attempt will certainly fail as Russia and the countries it trades with (including China and South Korea) are certainly capable of producing this technology themselves. By contrast through the deals it has made this year with China, Turkey and Iran, Russia has dealt a devastating blow to the energy future of the EU. A few years down the line Europeans will start to discover that moralising and bluff comes with a price. Regardless, by cancelling South Stream, Russia has imposed upon Europe the most effective of the sanctions we have seen this year.

Can you imagine if you lived in New York City and woke up one morning to find that everyone had gone, you couldn't fail to notice something like that. However this isn't a plot line for the film 'I Am Legend' with you playing Will Smith's role, instead it's an disturbing visual observation of what it would be like if NYC was in Syria, a desolate, abandoned ruin of a city, devoid of it's inhabitants. Syria's neighboring countries have bore the brunt of the war in Syria's effects by taking in millions. But now, they can't keep up. In some of the poorest communities in the Middle East, the strain on resources has made life unbearable. Lebanon has welcomed 1,600,000 refugees, swelling its population by 36%. While at last count USA has accepted only about 300 Syrian refugees so far and the UK had only resettled 54. The statistics are shocking, but they don't tell the individual stories of those so personally affected. They don't tell Dalya's story - a mother of four who had to sell her asthma medication to pay rent. Or Khalida's story, another mother of four who was hit by a sniper and paralysed from the neck down. For them, every day is a fight for survival.

The only problem was that President Barack Obama himself had spoken out on the issue nearly three hours earlier on ABC World News Tonight. "So far, we haven't heard boo from the White House," MacCallum told her guest. "And you might expect - when you think about after 9/11, and the concerns that there would be further threats - the message was always go live your life, do what you're going to do, go to the movies, go shopping." So what did Obama have to say about the threats in his interview with David Muir earlier in the evening?"* The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur breaks it down. *Read more here: http://ift.tt/1zbXyKh...

Stupidity

As an American, who has lived abroad, and dealt with the immigration systems of other countries, I am tired of our open border. I have come up with a solution, that is a win/win, no brainer. Most western countries, use strict immigration controls, giving the receiving country full power to decide who comes in. Some are better than others. Those who fail to control their borders, understand the damage and dangers of loose regulations. (see the EU and Brittain) The countries with the strictest border control, are places no one wants to go to anyway. These nations condemn any action taken by the US, as they use harsh punishments, and fast deportation in the rest of the cases of illegal entry. I ask this simple question. Why are there multiple military bases, in the interior states? Kentucky is home to several bases, housing the Armor training at Ft. Knox, and airborne divisions, not so far away. The bases have large training areas, including live fire ranges, from small arms, to M1 Abrams, and 155mm artillery. What exactly are they protecting in these landlocked states? Is there something special about the mud of Kentucky? From personal experience, I am confident that the climate/terrain of Arizona, is far more effective training environment, which matches our modern risk conditions. With that said, I propose the following. Why doesn't the US move the bulk of their CONUS forces, to the border states. Giving them permanent home, in these states, and opening all live fire ranges, along the border. This would provide a buffer, which no one would cross. It would minimize the amount of fence that would need to be built, saving the tax payers billions of dollars. It would also put the bulk of our forces, in a protective posture on our southern border. Anyone that has military experience, especially in armor /artillery /airpower, know the dangers of our military ranges. They are death zones, scarred and pock marked from shells and bombs. No place for someone looking to pick fruit, clean bathrooms, plant trees or paint houses, wants to hang around, or walk through. This solution is simple, common sense, and effective. Every nation has the absolute right to protect and enforce their borders. Anyone that claims otherwise, would never allow anyone in their home, with out their consent, and are hypocrites. If they deny this, ask for their home address, grab your friends, tell them to invite their friends, and pick up anyone hanging outside 7-11 and home depot, and bring them to the "open house", see how these liberals react to all the strangers, rampaging through their home. Make sure to bring some MS-13 guys, with lots of teardrop face tattoos, also as many non-English speakers, who are drunk, have an attraction for young children, and carry no identification. Nothing is more sobering to hypocrisy, than a face full of truth. I know my idea won't please everyone, probably less than half will agree with it. Again, I ask everyone to consider the "house party" as described, and read my proposal again. Finally, ask yourself if my ideas, or those of Washington, and the liberal elites, are better for the nation.
