The European Union's ambassador to Israel has said that Tel Aviv likely faces increasing isolation if talks with the Palestinians over illegal Israeli settlements fail. Lars Faaborg-Andersen said in an interview with an Israeli TV channel that the isolation would not necessarily be official EU policy. But he noted that Israel could find itself isolated through the actions of private European companies. Last week, Andersen said EU officials have held debates on possible EU-wide actions, such as labeling or even banning settlement products exported to Europe. A growing number of European businesses have cut trade with firms involved in West Bank settlements. And the United States, the European Union, and the rest of the world regard Israeli settlement activity as a violation of international law.
