A fresh wave of Saudi led airstrikes fell over Sanaa province on Sunday, reportedly killing at least 11 people in the capital and five others in the town of Kawkaban, the oldest archaeological site in the country. The attacks come as Saudi Arabia and its allies reportedly move ground troops to Turkey's Incirlik military base with a strong potential that a ground intervention into Syria will be given the green light. The ancient town of Kawkaban was left in ruin after coalition strikes bombed the area earlier in the day. The air raids forced residents from their homes killing five and injuring at least eight. The Saudi-led air campaign in Yemen began last March and according to UN figures has killed 2,795 civilians. More than 21 million people rely on humanitarian assistance to survive, with the airstrikes leaving some 2.5 million people internally displaced. As Saudi Arabia-led airstrikes continue to pound Yemen, a ground led military offensive in Syria becomes more likely after the Gulf state transported troops to Incirlik military base in Turkey which sits close to the Syrian border. Saudi officials have claimed that they intend to eliminate the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) from the Middle Eastern country. However, earlier in the week Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir announced that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad must be removed by force if ceasefire agreements fail to transpire.
