BY SEAN BROWN / ON DECEMBER 16, 2014 AT 11:49 AM With the winter months upon us, stories of people failing to properly respect slippery roadways are becoming more common, and a video out of Canada shows us what happens when people fail to take the proper precautions when driving on black ice.The video was uploaded to YouTube on Monday and shows a 15-car pileup in Lethbridge, Alberta, that's a result of people driving too fast in the icy conditions. Initially, there's just a few cars off the side of the road that had fallen victim to the ice, but other drivers fail to slow down for the slick conditions and that number quickly grows. Motorists can be seen speeding towards the area, where other drivers sought safety on the grass hill next to the highway, and one-by-one spinning out of control, either slamming the median or hitting a disabled car. At one point, one of the onlookers nearly gets run over as a speeding car careens onto the grass, but they're ultimately able to avoid tragedy. As the video progresses, the man shooting it pans down the road and you can see over a dozen cars that have slid off the road or hit another vehicle. Finally, after 15 vehicles are seen littered on the side of the road, it appears as if traffic slows to the point where motorists can safely pass. Videos like this show us that when driving in these conditions it's always better to slow down a little and make it to your destination safely. While nobody appeared to be injured, the results could have been very different, and saving a little bit of time definitely isn't worth the injury you could face as a result.
