US military knew about the weakness of the stealth when F117 night hawk was tracked and shot down by a Serbian military. How many years ago was that?? Front line Russian fighter in operational service is Su35 (super Flanker or Flanker-E) costs less than $90 million. It had no problems with dealing with F15s and F16s nor F/A18s. If it were a car, they would qualify for a vintage plate. Russia isn't sitting pretty with laurel on its head with Su35. Next generation fighter Su PAK/FA is in test flight phase with initial production started. It uses extensive carbon fiber, uses vectored thrustors, it also has stealth that actually work against US AEGIS radar... It's better than Su35. And there is the venerable Mig21 with updated avionics which had no problem with USAF F15, and F16 in war games. Sukoi pilot said it was embarrassing. Like taking a candy from a kid. That plane was designed in the '50sand gave USAF a lot of headache over Vietnam. US lost lots of Super Saber or was it the Thunder Chiefs too far back to remember... And the US politics and defense industrial complex want money money money!!! for what pieces of junk? Why didn't anyone in Pentagon stop this cluster f*&k? F35 program is still active because its too big to fail!! My partner's ex is a retired Navy Capt. a naval aviator. She didn't believe me when I was telling her a year ago that F22 and F35 were sitting ducks but now she is feeling really sad for today's pilots and their families. She still have vivid memories of having to go and visit and talk with a wife whose pilot husband was killed. My partner's husband at the time was a CO for that squadron. Another reason Putin is not heeding American threats. US military operation all hinges on complete air superiority. Without it, well it will be a very sad day.
