The left has a funny way of operating, as they can rarely see past the tip of their own nose. What they fail to realize is that they often set the precedent for "slippery slopes" of all varieties, and their initial goals evolve into ridiculousness and obscurity. That's exactly the case recently with the Confederate flag and the liberals' insistence regarding its "offensive" nature. Now, some have used it as a stepping stone to target an NFL team's logo that they feel is "racist" - and it's not the one you're thinking of. When you started reading this, I'm going to take a gamble and say you were probably thinking of the Washington Redskins, right? Well, as it turns out, the left has actually set its eyes on the fleur-de-lis , which is the symbol proudly displayed by the New Orleans Saints. According to The Daily Caller : The fleur-de-lis, a French symbol used by royal families dating back to the 13th century, and emblazoned on the New Orleans Saints helmet, is now being called a symbol of slavery, drawing comparisons to the recent uproar against the Confederate battle flag. The argument was brought up by slave historian Dr. Ibrahima Seck, who said, "As an African I find it painful, and I think people whose ancestors were enslaved here may feel it even harder than I do as an African." According to the historian, he connects the image used by Louisianans to "code noir" or black code, which is exactly what it sounds like - the law that outlined how slaves were governed. He states that a slave who was caught running away "would be taken before a court and the sentence would be being branded on one shoulder and with the fleur-de-lis, and then they would crop their ears." Those caught a second time would suffer an additional branding before having their hamstrings cut, rendering the slave unable to run away. Tulane history professor Terence Fitzmorris backed Seck's remarks but says he wouldn't go as far as suggesting the symbol be banned. "The fleur-de-lis was the symbol of a monarchy," he explained. "The United States of America was a slave-holding republic, not just the south. Where do you stop? Do you get rid of all symbols?" Sadly, as noted before, this is the precedent liberals have set forth by banning the Confederate flag. Now, because the whiners of the world have been obliged for unfounded and ignorant reasons, anyone can say they're "offended" by something and expect to have it stripped away, using the Confederate flag's removal as their primary arguing point.
