Rock Hill, SC - Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery after a woman was threatened with a gun at a drive-through ATM. A man threatened the woman with a gun and tried to take money out of the machine, but left the scene empty-handed, according to a Rock Hill police report. At 8:30 p.m., the woman was in her car at the ATM on Progress Way, off Dave Lyle Boulevard, when she turned around and saw a man wearing black clothing with something dark covering his face approach the driver's side window and point a handgun at her. When she screamed, the robber told her to stop screaming and put his hand over the money return slot to get any cash that came out. But the driver was depositing a check, and the machine didn't put out any money. Apparently frustrated, the robber fired a round into the air before fleeing in a dark-colored sedan. A witness also reported seeing the man walk across the parking lot toward the ATM carrying a revolver, then heard the woman scream and saw the man fire the gun in the air before fleeing. Police searched the area for the suspect's vehicle, but were unable to find a car matching the description of the sedan. Surveillance video was released Wednesday afternoon. Police are asking those who may have information on this case to call 803-329-7200 or 803-329-7293.
